The natural confluence patterns of the Nile delta inspire our proposal for an ‘exhibition and conference city’ for Cairo – with a central ‘river’ and extending ‘tributaries’ explored to define circulation and the nature of clustered buildings – each with its own mass, all relating to an overall vision.
Our proposal for Cairo Expo City – a unique and iconic exhibition and conference city for Cairo – comprises international exhibition centre, conference complex and business hotel, located between downtown Cairo and the airport.
Urban strategy pursues the notion of an homogeneous urban cluster map, adapted to site boundaries, in which individual buildings, each with its own mass are grouped to serve an overall configuration and vision.
The natural confluence patterns of the Nile delta provide inspiration for the project – with a central artery or river running north to south across the site, into which secondary tributaries, defined by visitor movements, converge – effectively forming the built landscaped, individual structures, their entrances and circulatory systems. Horizontal expansion of the center is balanced by the strong vertical presence of the hotel at its northern extremity.
Fluid landscaped spaces feed the center’s undulating volumes as sequenced vortex lines merge into their patterned outer skins
